The MG Car Club of Hong Kong - THE HISTORY

The MG Car Club of Hong Kong was formally established on 24th October 1981, although it may have had earlier predecessors. It is the local affiliate of the MG Car Club in the UK and celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2006. In the mid-1990s, the MGCCHK had some 120 members and there were estimated to be more than 200 MGs still in use in Hong Kong. However, many went back to Britain, the USA or Australia with their owners around the time of the Handover in 1997 and membership of MGCCHK fell. Membership leveled off to about 60 in the early 2000s, but has since started to rise again and now numbers over 70. There are thought to be around 150 MGs left in Hong Kong (covering TC, TD, TF, MGA, MGB, MGC, RV8, Midget and F). However, with membership of the MGCCHK now rising once more, we see more cars being imported. Most of the MGs remaining are well maintained by their owners, and many see regular daily use. The MGCCHK forms a focal point for all MG owners in Hong Kong and provides the chance for members to compete in regular driving skills tests, join country drives and BBQs, meet other owners at monthly social gatherings, and swap MG parts and advice. We have our own regular newsletter and monthly newssheet. The Club is also a useful source of spares and advice and has arrangements for classic car insurance.
